Copyedit/Line edit
A technical edit to correct and smooth your writing without compromising your narrative voice and style.

1. Copyedit report & style sheet
A copyedit is a technical correction.
- I will make up an extensive report while editing your book/work
- A style guide (Oxford guide, UK & Chicago, US) is used to create a style sheet and will record details about capitalization, spelling variation, hyphenation, punctuation style
- Changes are made to improve accuracy, consistency and flow of text & the style sheet will be used to track those changes, thus ensuring accuracy
- There may be some light formatting if needed, i.e., Chapter headings, page breaks, scene breaks, indents
2. Full line-by-line edit.
This is an in-depth edit that will address clarity and flow.
I’ll be looking at the following:
- Style consistency
- Character/narrative voice & authenticity
- Character trait consistency
- Plot/character continuity
- Spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, hyphenation & capitalization
- Show vs Tell prose
- Cliche and awkward metaphor
- Use and consistency of tenses
- Layout guidance
- Letter, word, line and paragraph spacing
- Chapter sequencing
A line edit will focus on your style and voice, helping you become a better writer.
For self-publishing authors a combined copy & line edit is best, giving you an edit that is both technical and stylistic.
Developmental editing
I only offer this service for fiction.
This is an assessment of your manuscript, with you taking the lead.
The aim is to help you with further revisions. There are no direct edits, but you will receive a comprehensive and detailed report from me covering the following:
- Plot
- Structure
- Conflict and stakes
- World-building
- Characterisation
- Writing
- Point of view
- Flow
- Voice… and so on.
You can expect an in-depth report and it will include some example extracts from your text to give you a better understanding and guidance.
I will include writing resources for further reading and a one to one via video conference call for questions.
Every project is unique and therefore will need individual pricing depending on length and complexity.
Proofreading
The Final step.
This is the final check and happens before publication.
It is a careful and meticulous read through of your work, paying particular attention to detail. I will be looking for typo’s, missing words, punctuation and such before publication.
This service may include:
- Grammatical & spelling errors
- Checking page numbers
- Checking headings & titles
- Checking contents/copyright pages
- Ensuring consistency using copyeditor’s style sheet.
- Checking that nothing has been left out i.e., Maps/illustrations
- Ensuring paragraphs are correctly indented
- Checking scene breaks
